In Bernardsville, we enthusiastically endorse Republican Mary Jane Canose for re-election as mayor.

Canose, the first woman elected as mayor in the borough’s nearly 100-year history, has simply done an outstanding overall job in her first four-year term.

She’s managed to advance much-needed recreational improvements, mandated affordable housing projects, help with hiring decisions for key municipal employees, and worked to initiate new community programs along with other volunteer groups such as the Downtown Bernardsville non-profit that’s revitalizing the business district.

She also helped the borough and its businesses weather the pandemic.

And remarkably, most of her accomplishments have come while working with a politically divided Borough Council.

Canose has been accessible, never ducking questions about some rather challenging issues facing the borough such as redevelopment initiatives.

She’s also been a hands-on, upbeat leader, seldom missing a community event, whether it’s a holiday celebration or a new business ribbon-cutting ceremony. She deserves four more years.
